All of my pieces are unique, handbuilt using a variety of surface finishes, including ceramic stains and washes/glazes, smoke fired, or painted. The clay at times includes paper, metal, glass or other texturing materials. Pieces may be similar, but are never the same.
"....les fleurs" are sculptural forms suggesting both flower and figure, sensual, undulating, colorful. Earth Forms, geodic many using textured clay, also experimenting with finishes, smoke, paint. I explored the shallow bowl form adding ridges, suggesting trailing roots, rivers flow, paths. These were inspired by Andy Goldsworthy, an environmental artist. A revisit to painting, my original art form, quite by accident.... while painting wooden boxes in which to place my figures, rose a group of paintings, related in time, if not subject. "Other works" gallery images showing a variety of explorations in clay. Currently, I am exploring the theme of windows and doors in both clay and paint and have begun a painting series "Rhythm of Life".
The "Rhythm of Life" painting series is available to view in my gallery pages. These paintings were done in the U.P. of Michigan this summer. They are about the energies of all things. Nothing is really still. They reflect the light, the sky, the trees, the spirit, the wind, all things.
New work, experimentation involves the stacking of clay, like stones, a sort of balancing act. Some of the forms in their raw clay state are available to view in my gallery pages, Clay work in progress.. More to come on this.
